How do you communicate with parents?
We believe that communication is important. We will be using agenda/planners daily to mark homework and behavior, and papers will be sent home in the Tuesday folder. We do ask parents to sign up for the Remind Communication App, view the agenda/planner daily, and go look through the Tuesday Folder each week.
Planners
Your child has a school planner that they are expected to take home and bring back each day. This planner is very important as it will be used for daily communication. Students will record their daily work and mark their behavior in their planners. Teachers will initial the work and behavior to assure accuracy. A replacement planner may be purchased if your child loses their planner.
Tuesday Folders
Tuesday folders will be sent home each week. In the folder you will find returned school work and school-home communications. Parents are asked to review the work in the folder and sign and return any papers that need to be returned. The folder has two sides – a “keep at home” and a “Return to school side of folder”. Please sign the signature page to indicate that your child gave you their folder. Return the folder the next day.
What Classroom Management system do you use?
For our classes to run smoothly we believe that behavior management is important and will begin teaching procedures and expectations from the first day. Students will use a flip chart behavior management system in the classrooms that travels with the class to all teachers. This system promotes positive behavior choices and encourages students to self-monitor their behavior. Students are instructed to mark their behavior in student agendas/planners each day. Most behavior needs will be addressed in the classroom; however, if parent contact is needed, a message will be sent via remind or the planner.
How it works:
Teachers mark negative and positive behaviors for students on the flip chart. If a student earns too many negative, with no positive marks to counteract them, they earn a consequence. Consequences may include: Private Dining at lunch (eat lunch by themselves), time out during class or recess, private seating in the classroom (student sits away from others), or is excused from reward activities.
Here are the following behavior expectations that we will be monitoring:
Mrs. Taylor’s 4th grade students are expected to read 20 minutes every school night. A reading log is available for extra credit. If your child reads for 20 minutes each night they will have read 3,500 minutes by the end of the school year. It is highly encouraged that students read on weekends and holidays.
